How is Your Baby Growing at 21 Weeks?

When you reach 21 weeks of pregnancy, you will start to feel stronger movements, including lots of kicks. You might start to notice that they move around at the same time each day.

 

Your baby is breathing in amniotic fluid, which provides nutrition and hydration. Your baby’s taste buds are developing and the eyelashes and eyebrows are beginning to grow.

How Big is Your Baby at 21 Weeks?

At week 21, your baby is 27 cm (about the size of a large carrot) and weighs 360 g. They now weigh more than the placenta.

 

What Happens at 21 Weeks?

If you haven’t yet had your second ultrasound scan, you will have it during week 21.

 

What Symptoms Will You Have at 21 Weeks?

When you are 21 weeks pregnant, you may start to notice an increase in your appetite.

 

Varicose veins may have developed around your ankles due to increased fluid retention and high progesterone causing your veins to relax. Elevating your legs or wearing compression tights when you sit down should help to reduce the severity of your varicose veins.

 

At week 21, you may experience a number of pregnancy symptoms, including:

  • Back ache
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • High temperature
  • Indigestion and heartburn
  • Nose bleeds
  • Leg cramps
  • Stomach cramps
  • Swollen gums
  • Swollen hands and feet
